The project aims to educate students at the Faculty of Science (Palacký University Olomouc) about the impact of EU policies in the scope of GeoSciences. The project establishes a brand new study course titled “Impact of European Union Policies on GeoSciences” that includes teaching activities (lectures and seminars), debating activities (roundtable debate with EU policy expert), and practical educational excursion to European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (changed to local excursion – due to COVID-19 restrictions). The course is organized in cooperation of the three departments dealing with “geo” domain – Geography, Geoinformatics; and Development and Environmental Studies.

Before the project started, there was no course about EU studies focused on geosciences at the Faculty of Science at Palacky University Olomouc, hence the project/course will fill the gap in both teaching as well as research. The EUGeo project significantly improves awareness about the EU related issues for geography, geoinformatics, and development studies students. The proposed syllabus combines expertise of three involved departments and EU studies experts, and the course will offer (1) Introduction to the EU and GeoSciences by the Department of Geography, (2) Information about Impact of EU policies on Geodata in GeoSciences taught by the Department of Geoinformatics; and (3) Insight into the EU development aid and active citizenship from the perspective of the Department of Development and Environmental Studies. All results and outputs will fully comply with open access requirements of European Commission and are available through the Erasmus+ Project Results platform.
