Summary

Location analysis relates to finding new locations for new facilities and allocation analysis are related to attend the facilities. These analysis could be useful for spatial and urban planning and also for geomarketing or business analysis.

The main aim of this thesis was to describe possibilities of allocation and location network analysis in ArcGIS and try to use it in practise.

The list of the possible usage was created. The list includes especially tools from Network Analyst Extension. In the last version of ArcGIS Software there exist a new tool for solving location and allocation network analysis using demand points to locate a facility. This thesis is focused especially on it. The result is a tutorial describing all these possibilities in detail, including sample examples. The tutorial is available on the website Department of geoinformatics.

The second part include three case studies that try to implement analysis mentioned above on themes selected by the Municipality Office in Olomouc. The data were provided by this office and are not available for other purposes. The First case deals with the finding new locations for waste collection point. The analysis was solved by Maximize Attendance Analysis. The Second case study is focused on containers for separate waste in Olomouc. The aim was to find locations that are not served by containers in the distance of 200m. The key factor was to minimize the distance so the best solution was to solve it by Minimize Impedance Analysis. The Third case deals with maternal schools in Olomouc and the aim was again to find demand points that are not served. In this case study was found out that using network analysis is not suitable for solving this problem because the parents don’t care about the closest school so often.

Two case studies were solved in practise and will be used by the municipality office of Olomouc. For the study about finding new locations for waste collection point and containers for separate waste is suitable to use location allocation network analysis. The analysis about maternal school was also solved but it does not represent the real situation but only an ideal model.
