SUMMARY

The main aim of the thesis thematic maps in autostereoscopy was to evaluate and test the possible outcomes of thematic maps visualized by autostereoscopic method that allows to perceive depth without the usage of special viewing technologies. In this work was explored how to create maps and how to display them autostereoscopicaly. In the first part of the thesis is the listing of the most commonly used thematic methods used by the world's leading cartographic authors. Subsequently, these methods were evaluated and based on the technical limitations is compiled a list, which contains a set of maps, that can be done in a variant with the third dimension.

Another part contains the instructions on how to proceed when creating maps in third dimension. Manual includes a description of important parameters utilized by the software used in the creation of outputs. The main part of thesis is a set of illustrative thematic maps that serve as demonstration of possibilities of creating the autostereoscopic maps. Each option technically feasible or unfeasible for any reason is commented on in terms of the creation process and the resulting usability. Few selected maps were used for functional verification by user testing. Aim of the testing was to verify the methods of map creation and map visualization used in thesis.

The conclusion is devoted to the discussion and controversy about the possibilities of making maps with a third dimension, and their subsequent implementation in autostereoscopic display.
